Ubin Trip #2

Saturday, October 30, 2004

Ok, let me get to the point straight. I'm going to the hospital this coming Wednesday around evening time 6-7pm++. Those who want to group together before going down please add your name on my doodle-board.

GY will be downgraded out of ICU by tomorrow if all is well. Obviously, he'd be changing to high dependency ward so please do call and find out the new ward number before going down and getting fugging scared if you don't find him at ICU.

And to those who know him and STILL have not visited him yet. . . That's all that will be said on that topic. We wish that he would recover fast and well. Get well soon GY! We love ya! <-- Line by Val. I woke up in the morning and realised to my dismay that Mr. Meow was nowhere in sight. My maid, Pen, had somehow (on purpose I suppose) forgotten to put Mr. Meow at the balcony before everyone went to bed.

Mr. Meow usually sleeps at the balcony until morning when we will let her out again. She has, up to date, never attempted to escape by jumping through the balcony grills and onto the rooftop that will lead her to the wall seperating me and my neighbour's house and then on to the floor and then you should get the idea cos I'm tired of describing so much.

Yes, my friends. I had lost the cat for good this time. She was nowhere in sight. And whistling to the streets like an idiot (which would usually send her scurrying towards me) was of no use.

What bad luck!

Oh ya.. and I said yesterday I went to Ubin right? Well, this trip was much more enjoyable. Although seemingly all four of us (Xiang, Teehong, Yin, Me) were out of breath most of the time, and had to get off our bicycles to push the bike uphill, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I guess so, because I certainly did enjoy myself.

We stumbled upon this cat that was near us. To my amazement, it wonderfully resembled the body markings of a tiger. A white tiger too! I don't know why the rest didn't seem as excited as I did. I went home and my dad said "What's so special? It looks like a normal cat to me. It's the same as saying a wolf and a dog looks the same. Same family wat!" Here's the photo of the cat:

Beautiful isn't it? It has a rather plump head. I wonder whether it was born like that, or is it because of some gum diseases that made its lower half of the face look so swollen. Or maybe. . . it's a tiger that had angered a witch, thus got turned into a cat. . .

We then went to this villager's house. Believe me, if you ever came to my house and said it's a mini-zoo. . Well, you haven't been to this Auntie's house. She stays with her husband and grandson, while her children, I guess, are working in Singapore itself. The 2 year old grandson is very cute. In fact, while we were sitting there enjoying our 100plus drinks that we bought from his Grandma, he pooped right in front of us in a patch of grass. He then proceeded to run half-naked (waist-down naked) around the entire place.

Not a very pleasant sight.

The little cute boy, whose name we learnt is Jie En, then discoverred a piece of biscuit on the floor below the parrot's cage. He dug it out in an effort to feed the hungry birds. His hands was clinging on to the cage as his chubby toe was trying to pinch that wade of biscuit. Surprisingly, the birds didn't peck him. I guess they aren't that tame around strangers. Just earlier on, there was another guy with a camera who was taking a close up shot of the parrots. One of them pecked at the lenses.

We then admired the main attraction of the Auntie's house. Her wild boar that she had reared for 8 years since it was a piglet. . or boar-let. It looks just like a porcupine, with its tusk shaven down.

Just like Kilo, this piggy is really infatuated with bread. All you have to do is to put a folded slice of it on the railing, and it would jump up on to legs and eat it, and then stare at you to see if you have anymore. Real cute sight. Check it out the next time you go there alright?

We then decided that there was nothing else that we haven't done on the island, so we decided to have a great smashing lunch there before we left for home, take a great deserving hot bath, and then head down to Orchard for a rolling good weekend.

Yin on left, Tee Hong on right. Don't they both look like they're advertising for some Polo Ralph Lauren perfume? We were on the boat on the way back to the main island. It was raining as we took this shot, as you can obviously see from the dark cloud above their heads. Singular 'CLOUD', cos there's only that distinct piece over there that is so dark, haha.

We did everything like Mr. Flash. Left Ubin at 4pm, and by 6.15pm, all of us were clean and fresh and at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station thanks to Mum who fetched me to Serangoon MRT. . . all except Yin, who was late for usual.

When she finally arrived, all that we ate at Ubin was digested and we puberty-going-teenagers (haha) were soon hungry for food again. We went to have a bit of sushi. Here, take a look at my artwork:

After having a splendid (and very expensive) sushi meal, I haven't even had time to burp when I received a serious phone call from Val telling me about GY's condition. We rushed down to the hospital after meeting up with Val, Alex and Hany. And then subsequently, Darius and Kingston.

GY was in pretty bad shape. Hey man, we're talking about a guy who loves his hair. It looked as if it had been cut by some frisky unprofessional medical staff. We each made our individual greetings to him, with the most outstanding performances given by Valerie and Yin. Val promised to date him after he gets discharged from hospital, while Yin asked him to be there to see her slim down (by the way, I got to add, Yin really lost a lot of weight compared to Bendemeer days).

Did you know that before Kingston arrived, we saw a guy walking towards us. We were sitting at the 7-11 right downstairs where the passengers alight from the taxi. This guy stood so far away, we thought he was Kingston, so we were like "Hey Kingston! Over here!" As he walked nearer (to throw something away to the dustbin near us), we realised it is NOT Kingston. Embarrassed, we all kept quiet and pretended to do some thing else.

Everyone's mood was rather low that night. I kinda regretted alot. Remember last week when I just went to Ubin? I sms everyone, including GY and asked him to come along. As usual, he didn't reply. Although it is usual of him to do so, I was still pissed. I mean, hey, it's the gathering of the usual 'old' people, how could he give it a miss? We all haven't seen each other for quite an awful long time. Little did I know it was because he was already admitted.

Ok ok, I know I promised not to mention about him anymore but it's hard. He's a buddy after all, and a very close friend once. In fact manz, here's a photo of our old days at Bendemeer. . . Just Me, Val, Kingston and GY . .

And to answer some of your predictable questions. . Yes, we were wearing our school uniform. Nothing to be disgraceful about. Just treat it as white pants and white shirt.. or white shirt with sky blue skirt. How many teenagers can have their school uniform in beautiful sky blue? We were in the midst of having our CA exams in this photograph in our O'level year. How much things have changed since.

After visiting GY at the hospital, we walked from GH to Chinatown to eat at a kopitiam, where Val and Teehong created this:

A rough scanning of the background photo would also provide you with some clue that we were having a very traditional Singaporean breakfast in the wee hours of the morning. The above photo was created with dark soya sauce and drops of Milo, just for your information, haha.

And then, just this morning, I realised a photo of THIS!

The other more important discovery in my room was this morning intruder!!

Yup. My darling Mr. Meow came home in the end. I found her sleeping in Chubby's bed instead. She was all covered with dry leaves and car oil. No one know for sure where she had been the whole of yesterday but one thing that is for certain, I am glad that she's home! Unharmed and everything.

My dad says that we have to bring her to the vet soon. She's a girl. Can't risk her running out of the house like that all the time. She might meet an accident or even get herself pregnant. I certainly don't want to have a thousand Mr Meows running all over the place. One is enough. Ok, maybe two or three around the house would be good too. Do you know she is so swift and fast that even houseflies cannot escape from her?
